ECI service edge routers enable switched services
via our innovative Multi-service over MPLS implementation (also
called Layer 2 transport over MPLS). Multi-service over MPLS allows
service providers to offer switched data services such as ATM, Frame
Relay and Ethernet over a common IP or MPLS backbone. ECI's Data
Networking Division is a pioneer in Multi-service over MPLS deployment,
introducing the first commercial implementation based on IETF Draft
Martini (co-authored by our technical leaders) in September 2001.
Multi-service over MPLS enables a wide range of profitable services
beyond the capacity of the existing data service backbones, while
reducing cost and complexity. With ECI service edge routers, carriers
can now offer scalable ATM, Frame Relay and Ethernet services over
an IP or MPLS backbone with the same level of bandwidth guarantees
and reliability as found in ATM and Frame Relay technology.
ATM
Services
ECI service edge routers deliver
the key functionality required for ATM service delivery, including
comprehensive interface support, robust quality of service (QoS),
cell and frame-based policing schemes, per virtual circuit queuing
and any-to-any service interworking.
Frame
Relay Services
ECI service edge routers deliver
the key functionality required for Frame Relay service delivery,
including a complete suite of interfaces, sophisticated QoS capabilities,
frame-based policing function, per virtual circuit queuing, Frame
Relay switching, local management interface support and any-to-any
service interworking.
Ethernet
Services
ECI service edge routers provide
the features required to offer advanced Ethernet services, including
any-to-any service interworking, full QoS, automated service management,
as well as advanced capabilities such as VLAN switching, 802.1p
to MPLS EXP mapping, per VLAN policing and shaping and 4.096 distinct
VLANs per port.
