The ST is the first MPLS IP VPN implementation with the high capacity, scalability, security and service management required by carriers to cost-effectively and rapidly provision, manage and bill for IP VPN services. Based on RFC 2547bis, the ST supports an industry-leading 4,000,000 VPN routes per system via a distributed architecture that ensures wire-speed performance regardless of the number of routes enabled. This enables carriers to support large numbers of customers per device, critical to offering competitively priced VPNs while maintaining high margins.

Scalable Layer 2 VPNs
The ST enables carriers to offer Layer 2 VPNs, a service that is highly appealing to both service providers and end users. Based on IETF Draft Martini (co-authored by our technical leaders), our solution enables Layer 2 VPN services to be offered over a range access network types and speeds, tying together ATM, Ethernet and Frame Relay connected sites through service interworking. Sophisticated QoS capabilities ensure that Layer 2 VPNs provisioned using the ST provide the same level of QoS as found in ATM and Frame Relay networks.
