ST200 Synchronous Optical Network (SONET)/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) PHY card interfaces scale from 64 Kbps to 10 Gbps and support both switched and routed data services with robust quality of service (QoS) and traffic management capabilities. ST200 SONET/SDH cards add the flexibility required to reconfigure services and interfaces as needs change, broadening service provider portfolios and reducing infrastructure costs today, with a clear path to support future growth.

ST200 SONET/SDH PHY cards deliver unprecedented flexibility with interfaces designed specifically to meet the needs of multi-service carriers. While other systems require specific cards for specific services, ST200 SONET/SDH PHY cards contain highly flexible interfaces that support channelization from NxDS-0 to OC-48, along with a variety of encapsulations including Packet over SONET (POS), Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP), High-level Data Link Control (HDLC), Frame Relay, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Ethernet, Multilink PPP (RFC 1990), Multilink Frame Relay (FRF.16), Inverse Multiplexing over ATM (IMA) and broadband (PPPoX). For example, an OC-12c ATM access interface can be reconfigured via software as an OC-12c POS trunk interface.This unparalleled level of flexibility reduces sparing costs, eliminates stranded ports and enables interface reuse as access network technologies change and bandwidth demands increase.

About PHY Cards
ST200 PHY cards work in tandem with Network Processor Blades (NPBs), high-performance, distributed packet processing and forwarding cards. NPB cards perform hardware-based forwarding of traffic between interfaces on the router at wire speed, along with sophisticated Quality of Service (QoS) functions that are configurable per logical interface, including packet classification, filtering, policing, queuing, marking and shaping.
