Laurel Introduces New Interface Cards
for the ST50 Service Edge Router
New miniPHYs Optimized for Delivering
VoIP and IP VPN Services over DSL and T1/E1 Circuits
October 11, 2004 - Pittsburgh, PA - Laurel
Networks, Inc., today announced the introduction of several new
miniPHY (physical interface) access cards for its ST50 Service
Edge Router. The new miniPHY cards add T1/E1, DS-3 and 10/100
TX Ethernet access interfaces to the ST50 platform, enabling the
delivery of new services such as VoIP (Voice over IP), IP VPNs
and broadband Internet access through IP DSLAMs (Digital Subscriber
Line Access Multiplexers), ATM DSLAMs and traditional T1 or E1
circuits. The cards expand the existing ST50 miniPHY family, which
includes AnyService AnyPort SONET/SDH and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces.
Three new cards are included in the release:
an 8-port channelized T1/E1 miniPHY, a 4-port DS-3 miniPHY and
an 8-port 10/100 TX Ethernet miniPHY.
· The 8-port
channelized T1/E1 card provides NxDS-0, T1/E1 and NxT1/E1
interfaces with Frame Relay and PPP encapsulations and integrated
support for reliable low jitter, low latency VoIP transport.
· The 4-port
clear channel DS-3 card supports Laurel's AnyService AnyPort
technology, including ATM for direct termination of ATM-based
DSLAMs for delivery of commercial and residential VoIP, video,
IP VPN and Internet services over DSL.
· The 8-port
10/100 TX Ethernet card provides Ethernet interfaces for growing
metro Ethernet services such as VPLS (virtual private LAN service)
and IP DSLAM termination with the QoS required for VoIP, video,
IP VPNs and Internet services.
"The introduction of this latest set of
interface cards leverages the miniPHY architecture of the ST50
Service Edge Router to enable a variety of new applications including
VoIP and video transport over current and future DSL networks,"
said Steve Vogelsang, VP of marketing and co-founder of Laurel
Networks. "Laurel's proven service flexibility combined with
our ever-increasing interface granularity makes the ST50 ideal
for carriers seeking a low entry cost with the flexibility to
add services and subscribers as needed."
Availability
ST50 8-port channelized T1/E1, 4-port DS-3 and
8-port 10/100 TX cards can be ordered in November 2004, for delivery
in January 2005.
