DACOM Selects Laurel Networks ST200 Service
Edge Router
Introduces QoS-enabled Ethernet
and Scalable IP VPNs while Extending ATM Services
Pittsburgh, PA - September 3, 2003
Laurel Networks, Inc., the first provider of high-performance
service edge routers, today announced that DACOM, one of the leading
service providers in Korea, has selected the ST200 Service
Edge Router to deliver scalable, QoS-enabled Layer 2 and IP VPN
services from the edge of its network.
The ST200 allows DACOM to extend its leading
ATM service across its metropolitan Ethernet access network without
sacrificing the high QoS of its existing offering. DACOM is also
introducing next-generation Ethernet services delivered with sophisticated
QoS characteristics via the ST200. At the same time, the flexible
ST200 will enable DACOM to offer new, scalable IP VPN services
without the use of additional devices.
Only the ST200 supports Layer 2 and IP-based
services on a single device with unmatched scale and performance
as customers and services are turned up. This provides a key advantage
to DACOM since fewer devices are required and more services are
supported per customer, with the additional flexibility to software-configure
new services and speeds as customer needs change.
"For edge routers, Laurel is the clear leader,
even for traditional core functions like OSPF/BGP routing throughput,"
said Mr. Byung Chang Choi, network switching division executive
director at DACOM. "And, when it came to putting a range
of interfaces in a single platform, Laurel had no peer."
"DACOM is one of the world's top service
providers and a leader in the use of innovative technology to
support their customers' evolving requirements," said Steve
Vogelsang, co-founder and vice president of marketing, Laurel
Networks. "The ST200 was designed specifically to meet the
demands of the multi-service edge, and we are extremely pleased
that DACOM is deploying the ST200 to offer a range of Layer 2
and IP-based offerings from our platform."
"The IP VPN service takes the flexibility
of the Internet and adds to it sophisticated Quality of Service,"
said Mr. Jung Rae Jun, senior manager of DACOM. "No other
technology comes close to MPLS in enabling the VPN capability
that makes these services private, flexible and secure. On top
of that, IP VPNs are a means to extend the reach and scalability
of legacy Frame Relay and ATM networks, not a replacement for
these services."
About the ST200 Service
Edge Router
The ST200 was designed from the
ground up to create profitable data services at the edge of an
IP/MPLS backbone network. With a distributed, edge-optimized architecture
combining Internet class routing, full port-by-port multi-service
capabilities and a sophisticated service management infrastructure,
the ST200 delivers services with unmatched performance, scalability
and flexibility to support current and future service provider
requirements.
About Laurel Networks
Laurel Networks is leading the
creation of The New Service Delivery Architecture to enable profitable
delivery of data and IP services at the edge of carrier IP/MPLS
networks. Laurel's service edge routers and service management
software are evolving carrier architectures from multiple data
networks to a single packet-switched architecture with minimal
capital investment. Combining carrier-class routing, data switching,
advanced QoS and high availability, Laurel service edge routers
support both routed and switched services. This unmatched service
agility allows carriers to evolve their service portfolio to meet
changing market requirements. Laurel Networks was founded in 1999
and is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. For more information,
