Laurel Networks® and Telindus Deliver New VPN Services to ntl Business and Carrier Customers

Laurel® allows ntl to cost-effectively deliver advanced broadband services over its $17 billion national and access network

Pittsburgh, PA, March 29, 2005 - Laurel Networks, Inc. and Telindus announced today that they have delivered a solution that will enable ntl to provide new Ethernet and IP VPN (virtual private network) services to its UK business customers. The solution -- a combination of Laurel Networks ST200™ and ST50™ broadband services routing products and the Laurel Provisioning System -- was delivered and implemented by Telindus, a global network services and solutions provider.

Already operational, the new network enables ntl to offer a range of high performance VPN solutions that link disparate office locations of all sizes over a single advanced broadband network. It also enables the delivery of low latency national Ethernet connectivity to both business and carrier customers.

Laurel's ST-series™ routers support a complete suite of advanced data services in a single platform - including VPNs, broadband, Internet, switched services, VoIP and video - over multiple access networks. This unmatched service and access network flexibility is coupled with the performance needed to deliver next-generation services to thousands of simultaneous users. The Laurel Provisioning System (LPS), which provides both operational and customer benefits, delivers point and click provisioning and provides a platform for future Web-enabled services for customer self service provisioning via a web portal.

Telindus provided ntl with independent laboratory facilities to test a variety of technology vendor solutions, before selecting Laurel Networks. Telindus then provided a fully-managed service including the installation and commissioning of the Laurel Networks solution as well as providing the on-going support services.

Derek Cobb, director of network architecture at ntl said: "ntl selected the Laurel ST-series router because it generally exhibited better carrier class characteristics than the other equipment under test. It proved to be extremely stable during the evaluation process. The router has sophisticated quality of service, traffic shaping functionality and demonstrated 100% throughput on gigabit Ethernet interfaces even for small VoIP packets. (Some operators experience significant service degradation when delivering small voice packets.) The routers provide ntl with the confidence that we will be able to deploy multiple high-bandwidth services without degradation and enable ntl to have the ability for customers to control their network via web-based interfaces in the future."

"Laurel Networks' ability to support any service, on any port, at any speed gives ntl rapid and flexible provisioning of enhanced IP services, providing significant savings to ntl and its customers in both cost and time for provisioning services. It provides ntl with a real strategic advantage in a highly competitive market," said Gordon Wardrop, client director, Telindus.

"ntl has deployed arguably the most scalable, advanced and high performance IP/MPLS network in Europe. ntl customers are already reaping the benefits in terms of the ultra low latency VPN services ideally suited to supporting VoIP, video and demanding business applications. In short, ntl is now well equipped to offer faster, more flexible and more reliable network services than its competitors," says Colin Rhodes, Laurel Networks director, EMEA operations.
