Betsy
Atkins, President
and CEO, Baja LLC, is a co-founder of Ascend Communications,
where she served as a director until the acquisition of Ascend
by Lucent Technologies. While at Ascend, Betsy played an integral
role in taking the company public in 1994. Betsy also served as
CEO of NCI Inc., a functional food manufacturer, and has held
several senior executive positions in the technology industry
at UNISYS, Amdahl and BBN/Genuity. Betsy has served on a variety
of private and public boards for over 23 years.
Atul Bansal, Co-Founder, President
and COO, Laurel Networks, brings many years of executive
experience in the data communications industry to Laurel, specializing
in the application of IP technology into the service provider
sector. As president of FORE Systems' Network Control Technology,
an IP routing technology subsidiary, as well as director of FORE's
multilayer Ethernet switching division, he led efforts that generated
hundreds of millions in revenue. Previously, Mr. Bansal held engineering
and technical management positions for router products at Digital
Equipment Corporation..
Peter
Barris, Managing
General Partner, New Enterprise Associates, joined NEA in
1992, became a general partner in 1993 and a managing general
partner in 1999. His present board memberships include Cidera,
DataCore Software, eCommerce Industries, Evolutionary Technologies,
eZiba.com, Mobius Management Systems, Norigen Communications Group
and PathNet. Peter specializes in information technology companies.
Before joining NEA, Peter was President and Chief Operating Officer
at LEGENT, and Senior Vice President and General Manager of the
Systems Software Division at UCCEL. He also held various management
positions between 1977 and 1985 at General Electric, including
Vice President and General Manager at GE Information Services.
Don Pyle, CEO, Laurel Networks, provides
the key leadership and strategic direction for Laurel Networks.
Most recently, Mr. Pyle was vice president of North American Sales
at Juniper Networks. In six years at Juniper he was instrumental
in winning key accounts, driving revenue growth and building the
sales and systems engineering teams. At Cisco Systems, he managed
one of the largest regions in the service provider division. He
served in a similar capacity at StrataCom prior to its acquisition
by Cisco. Previously, Mr. Pyle spent 10 years at Case Communications
where he held sales and sales management positions focused on
the service provider market.
Stephen
Vogelsang, Co-Founder
and Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Laurel Networks,
has
over 10 years of experience in networking and telecommunications.
As a co-founder of Laurel Networks, he identified the emerging
market for multi-service routers years ahead of competitors and
was instrumental in developing Laurel's business plan to address
this market. Previously, as senior director of strategic marketing
at FORE Systems, he developed and executed a marketing strategy
to expand FORE's presence in the service provider market. With
a strong technology and business background, he is able translatetechnology
innovation into business value.
Fred
Wang, General Partner, Trinity
Ventures, has over ten years
of experience in communications. Prior to joining Trinity in 1999,
he was a Partner at Spectrum Equity Investors, making investments
in next generation communications companies. Previously, Fred
held senior management positions at The Boston Consulting Group
working with clients such as AT&T, Wiltel, Lucent, Philips,
and Siemens; at Pacific Bell in the New Technologies Group; and
at Intuit.
Tim Weingarten,
Principal, Worldview Technology Partners, serves as a board
observer of Laurel. Tim has a strong technology investing background
with 4 years of venture capital experience and 4 years of high
tech investment banking experience. On behalf of Worldview, Tim
currently serves on the board of Cogent Communications, Force10
Networks, and Movaz Networks. In addition, Tim is a board observer
of Butterfly.Net and Reactrix Media and works on Worldview's investment
in Catena Networks. Prior to Worldview, Tim worked in the networking
and telecom research group at the investment banking firm Robertson,
Stephens & Co.
